We offer scholarships each year to writers who would otherwise be unable to attend due to financial circumstances. Scholarships are funded by sales of anthologies published by WordFire Press as well as by contributions from individuals. All monies received by the scholarship fund are distributed to scholarship winners in the form of SSWS registrations, without a single penny subtracted for administrative costs.

We're proud to announce that we're making room for marginalized communities to apply for a special branch of the scholarships for our seminars. Our goal is to increase the diversity of Superstars and provide an opportunity for people of color, people with disabilities, and LGBTQ+ persons who might not otherwise be able to afford the conference. We want to see the industry open up to these unique voices and interesting perspectives. Superstars is proud to present the Expanding Universe Scholarship.

Scholarship recipients will receive a free registration to the Intensive Craft Day and to the main business seminars that follow, for four full days of learning that will help them better navigate the pitfalls of publishing and enhance their career.

We're proud to present a new scholarship to Superstars Writing Seminars, aimed at aspiring writers who show promise in the genres of Science Fiction and Fantasy.

David Farland, one of the founders of Superstars, was a beloved member of the writing community, a mentor and coach to hundreds of talented new authors. In his best-known series, The Runelords, magic-users are able to transfer special powers, called “endowments,” to others. Thus, it’s exciting and appropriate for us to name this new scholarship after Dave and call it a “writing endowment."

Scholarship recipients will receive the following: A full registration to Superstars, including Craft Day, a standard (coach) flight to Colorado Springs and transportation to the event venue, a five-night stay at the Antlers Hotel, and $50 per diem.

Who is eligible to apply: Any unpublished writer who submits a five-thousand word writing sample and is free to attend Superstars 2023 from February 8 – 12, 2023.

Sometimes attendees need to make an additional payment for a gift or other reasons. Fill in the amount, then email Marie Whittaker at [email protected] to let her know the purpose of your additional payment.

Registrants who cancel by December 31, 2022 will receive a refund of 95% of the amount paid, not including processing fees. On or after January 1, 2023, refunds are granted for instances of bona fide emergencies, and the amount of the refund may vary. Please do not abuse this provision. Thank you!
